Best Supplement for Puppies

You have just gotten your new puppy and you are thrilled.  You want to be the best possible "parent" that this puppy could ever find and you only want the best for your dear little ball of fur.  What vitamins do you need?  What about minerals?  How about the immune system?  What food should I buy?

All warm blooded animals--birds, puppies, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, calves, foals, etc. including people--are born with what is known as "a sterile gut".  This means there is no bacteria at all in the digestive system as well as the rest of the body.  As soon as this newborn begins to breath oxygen, bacteria--both good bacteria and pathogenic bacteria--begins to develop and spread throughout the gut.  This is how Mother Nature intended it to be.  For the first 72 hours of nursing, a nursing mother aids her puppies in establishing the proper balance of bacteria in the gut while helping to establish the immune system with her colostrum production.

What sometimes happens is that the pathogenic (bad) bacteria will grow in the gut faster than the good bacteria will.  This causes an imbalance creating a stomach ache or diarrhea among other things, and causes your new puppy to be unable to digest its food.

In addition, if the mother has an imbalanced digestive system, then she can and will pass this imbalance on to her puppies as she nurses them.  Proper balance in the gut is essential for absorption of food and water, otherwise the puppy can eat and eat and never gain weight or thrive.  Obviously it is important that the mother has the proper ratio of good bacteria to pathogenic bacteria in her gut before she begins her task of feeding her puppies.  To learn how to establish the correct bacterial balance in the mother before she begins feeding her young,

A  NEWLY  WEANED  PUPPY

Your puppy is now in his new home and all of sudden has developed diarrhea, or is not eating or you just brought it back from the Vets after his vaccinations and he is sick or he has parasites of some sort or he/she has a skin condition and is itching badly.  What is the reason for this and what can you do?

Whenever a puppy has been encountering any sort of stressful physical or mental conditions,  such as being weaned from its mother, separation from its litter mates and going to a strange new home, its little body can quickly be overtaken with pathogenic bacteria.  Thus you may see diarrhea or not eating or depression of just not feeling well.  This bacterial imbalance and lack of interest in eating is easy to get a handle on without using toxic antibiotics that are known to suppress the still developing immune system.  We use and recommend probiotics to correct and prevent this condition.

PROBIOTICS, NOT ANTIBIOTICS??

Why use probiotics and not antibiotics?   Antibiotics KILL ALL the bacteria that has developed in the gut now leaving a "sterile gut" as when your puppy was born.  A sterile gut does not allow the body to absorb its food because your puppy needs the proper balance of good and bad bacteria in order to break down and digest its food.  On top of this, antibiotics suppress the newly developing immune system.  Just when your puppy needs all the help it can get from its immune system, antibiotics will suppress that critical healing system.

On the contrary,  probiotics are 180 degrees opposite an antibiotic.  A good powerful probiotic will flood the gut with 100% good bacteria and push the pathogenic bacteria right out of the body in the feces and urine.  This is why you will smell a very bad odor for about twelve to twenty-four hours after administering the good bacteria.  This is what you want to smell---the pathogenic bacteria being eliminated from the body.   In using probiotics, the gut is 100% loaded with good bacteria which helps take the stress off the immune system as well as help the puppy get its digestion reactivated, thus it is able to get some strength from its nutrients and now it is on the road to recovery while leaving the developing immune system to continue its important job--protecting your new baby.

Probiotics and their use in combating bacterial infections of all sorts, are one of the best kept secrets in this country.  If you can bring your puppy back to health quickly with a probiotic, then why would you use an antibiotic that kills good bacteria and suppresses the immune system especially with all the side effects?  People in other countries have been using probiotics as their choice for prevention and remedy of bacterial infections for years and years.  Our philosophy takes this natural approach a step further in that we use both herbs and probiotics to aid an animal with any kind of bacterial, viral or mild toxic infection.

We have found that the combination and synergy of herbs and probiotics is crucial in quickly dealing with the health issues of canines.  This herbal and probiotic synergy will work on a bacterial, fungal or viral problem immediately.

Interestingly you cannot overdo the probiotics for either puppies or adults.  The necessary pathogenic bacteria will quickly reestablish itself, thus the body gets into proper normal balance within a day or two.  Remember the good news/bad news scenario, this is quite accurate even though it is simplified.

WHAT  ABOUT  VITAMINS  &  MINERALS?

Our professional's take on supplementation for puppies is that 99% of the foods that are available to our beloved canine companions are deficient in the amount of vitamins, macro minerals and trace minerals that a fast growing puppy requires for robust health and vitality.   We highly recommend you supplement your growing doggie since the foods are deficient simply because the soils from which these foods have been grown are deficient in trace elements, vitamins and macro minerals.   Excellent health begins with excellent healthy soil.

In the 1930's an agriculture report to Congress indicated that 60% of the farm land in the United States was depleted of the necessary trace minerals that are crucial to the health of the American public.  In 1997, the World Health Organization reported the results of a study also done in the United States.  This study revealed that 100% of the farm land in the U.S. was completely depleted of trace minerals.  Nutritionists the world over maintain that trace minerals are as essential to the health and well being of animals (including humans) as water and oxygen.  Without trace elements in the food supply, the population of people and animals will suffer debilitating diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, heart failure, cancer and on and on.

Most food companies know this and will "fortify" their food with synthetic vitamins and minerals.  The problem with synthetic vitamins and minerals is that the body cannot absorb synthetics, thus your puppy is being deprived of the building blocks every single cell in its little body needs.  Why would synthetic vitamins and minerals even be considered as a food additive if they are not absorbable and a waste of money on the part of the consumer?  Sounds good on the label though doesn't it?

What your puppy needs are natural vitamins and minerals derived from plant sources that contain all the essential trace elements, macro minerals and vitamins that a canine requires.  Did you know that without trace minerals and macro minerals like calcium, phosphorous, magnesium etc. that the animal and human body cannot absorb vitamins to the extent that is necessary and recommended?  That if you are merely buying vitamins without including minerals, that you are just plain wasting your money?  Hence it is vitally important to have the proper balance of natural minerals in addition to natural vitamins for your puppy.  Yes, these minerals and vitamins should be provided to your puppy and your adult dogs on a daily basis.

One of the biggest problems most dog owners face is the inevitable skin issues like hot spots, hair loss, itchy areas, and overall irritation. It is important to identify the cause of the irritation first and then treat the symptoms. Causes vary according to the condition but include allergic reactions to foods or treats, reactions to chemicals or other external substances, and the effects of common parasties unchecked by a compromised immune system.

This product tested very well with the rescue shelters that are affiliated with our staff. Even the most difficult skin issues responded quickly and were completely resolved within 2 weeks.
